Prof. Tamar Liebes, passed away in March 2015

Professor Tamar Liebes, an Emerita and former Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, passed away in March 2015. 

 

 

Professor Liebes was a world-reknowned scholar who published 14 books and more than 100 articles and chapters in the fields of audience research; media events; journalism, war and terror; and media and public memory. Her book “The Export of Meaning: Cross Cultural Readings of Dallas” (1990), co-authored with Elihu Katz, revolutionized audience research and made a pioneering contribution to the study of media and cultural globalization. Professor Liebes was also a prominent public intellectual in Israeli journalism and broadcasting, serving as a member of the Israel Press Council and on the General Assembly of the Israel Broadcasting Authority.
