General Information

My name is Yonatan. I'm currently a Ph.D Candidate at the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I am most interested in conflict coverage, peace journalism and social media, and especially the interaction between journalists, media and citizens from two sides of a conflict. My studies, which focus on the Arab–Israeli conflict, combine a variety of research methods: in-depth interviews with journalists, computerized quantitative analysis and qualitative critical discourse analysis of news articles. I worked as a journalist in leading Israeli news organizations (Channel 13 and Ynet), focusing on events in the Arab world. I also engage in the field of digital diplomacy.

I'm now working on my doctoral dissertation. The topic of the dissertation is the interaction between journalists and media from two sides of a conflict (Advisors: Prof. Keren Tenenboim-Weinblatt and Prof. Zohar Kampf). The study investigates this exceptional pattern of collaboration among Israeli and Palestinian journalists across conflict lines focusing on the collaboration in news production and usage of sources from the other side to make the news for journalists at home.
